STATEMENT
Lines, patterns and shapes have been a constant throughout my life. In fact, my first career was that of a geometry teacher. Eventually transitioning to a software designer, I saw patterns in my clients’ businesses, and I matched those patterns with the software. And not surprisingly, my sport was synchronized swimming—a sport where I could make shapes with my body and the bodies of my teammates in the water.
I see shapes, lines and patterns in everything—in nature, in light and shadow, and especially in architecture. When the shapes, lines and patterns are just right in an image, I feel at peace. So, I suppose my goal with my photography is to put my viewers at peace.
As the years have progressed, I’ve found that my camera is coming closer and closer to the subject. As a result, my images have become more and more abstract, and I am okay with that. As long as an image conveys balance and calm, I am okay with it, whether or not you can tell what it is.
In the future, I want to experiment with using photographic images more as starting points for the final product rather than the endpoints. But to make it out of my digital trash bin, my final products must convey balance and good design. So, we’ll see where I grow.
